Description
Tribute to John Howe, obviously.
John Howe has always been one of my favourite artists (if not my favourite, period). I have this huge lithography of "Gandalf returns to Hobbitton" just above my bed, I collected almost all of his artbooks and I can spend hours admiring his pictures. He's got this amazing ability to create a world in a painting and it's a talent I really admire.
So, well, I used to think I was unable to paint landscape, and yesterday I decided I would stop complaining, grab my watercolors and give it a try. I borrowed Howe's favourite themes (Big oak trees, carved standing stones, luxuriant grass and some mythical figure il the middle of it all), watch closely his techniques (precisely explained in his "Fantasy art workshop" book), used a lot of references, and... tadaaa !
It's far from perfect but I'm really happy with how it turned out. I learned a lot and finally realised I CAN do landscapes. Yay !
Watercolor, coloured pencils, a bit of white gouache. Crappy scanner quality, sorry. I'll try to update something better.... maybe.
And my art block in officially over. More pictures soon ! \o/
